Training Civil Servants
The Ministry of Finance (MoF), organized four workshops on the right to access information between October 7 and 14, 2009. More than 77 participants representing 32 public organizations in Lebanon attended the meetings.
The workshops were held at the Basil Fuleihan Institute of Finance (training and communication center within the Ministry) and were organized in collaboration with the Lebanese Transparency Association (LTA) and the American Bar Association (ABA) Rule of Law Initiative in Lebanon. The workshops aimed at introducing the principles of access to information, discuss the draft submitted to Parliament by the Network in April 2009, and highlight the advantages and potential challenges from implementing the law in the Lebanese public sector. Representing the Minister of Finance Dr. Mohamad Chatah, Mr. Alain Bifani, Director General of Finance, opened the fourth workshop, organized for the Ministry of Finance staff. He highlighted the importance of the law in promoting transparency and the need to prepare effective implementation decrees.
